The first panel on this page was one of those trench warfare
drawings that moves forward very, very slowly. I kinda
got bogged down on the ammo-loader. I do like the little fire
truck at the right, with the two little firemen having a discussion
while waiting for the ammo-loader to burst into flames.
Panel two is my first-ever drawing of Conrad. Now that I'm starting
the book out with this character, I suspect I'm going to have to come
back to this page later and change his face to match whatever he looks
like at the beginning. He's a bit generic-looking here.
I think the bottom two panels are my favorite two panels so far. They
came out very rapidly -- there weren't any missteps or eraser attacks,
and they feel very relaxed. I hope that's a sign of things to come.
